Are Cars With Panoramic Sunroof More Expensive?
Cars with a panoramic sunroof are usually more expensive than cars with a conventional roof. On average, you need to pay from $800 to even up to $2000 more because the price of a single metal sheet is much higher than the price of a glass.
The sunroof alone costs about $1.200. But the costs don’t end here.
The work to put a panoramic sunroof is also a huge cost. The sunroof needs to be mounted, tested, and sealed, and workers who do this need to make money for their work.
What are the Problems with Panoramic Sunroofs?
A panoramic sunroof is for sure not for everyone. It has lots of advantages, but do you know the real disadvantages of this feature?
- It’s too hot in your car interior. If you leave your car with a panoramic sunroof uncovered on a hot and sunny day, don’t be surprised that it will exponentially increase the temperature in your car. The temperature in your car can be even 20% higher than with a car with a conventional roof, so it will take some time to cool down your car with the air conditioning or by opening the doors.
- It demands more care. If you wash your car in the car wash, it might not be enough. Sometimes you can’t get rid of some dirt that looks pretty bad on the glass. If you want your car with a panoramic sunroof to look great, remember at least once or twice a month to wash a sunroof with a window cleaner from inside and outside.
- You have less headroom. A car with a panoramic sunroof has less headroom by 1-1.5 inches. That might not seem like a lot, but if you are someone over 6.4 ft (195cm), you better take a test drive before you buy such a car. It’s not so important in SUVs or minivans, but it can be a problem when it comes to sedans, hatchbacks, or coupes.
- It doesn’t keep the warmth. In the summer the panoramic sunroof overheats your car, in the winter, it let out the warm air too much. When you get into a car with a panoramic sunroof after it was in the frost a couple of hours, it might be really unpleasant.
- Your car consumes more fuel. A car with a panoramic sunroof is about 100 pounds heavier than a car without it. It makes your car consume even up to 3% more fuel.
