12. What Do Ferrari Model Numbers Mean?

Ferrari uses various methods when naming its car models. The most popular are: engine capacity divided by the cylinders or ten, engine capacity plus amount of cylinders, and engine capacity plus amount of valves.

Engine capacity divided by the cylinders or ten: For example, the Ferrari 125s was named after its engine (a 1500 cc V12): if you divide 1500 cc with 12 you’ll get 125.

Engine capacity plus amount of cylinders: This new method still consisted of three numbers, but the first two represented the engine-capacity and the third represented the amount of cylinders. For example, the first production mid-engine Ferrari featured a 2.0-L V6 and was therefore named the Dino 206 GT.

Engine capacity plus amount of valves: For example, when it comes to the Ferrari 355, the first two numbers refer to the capacity of the engine (3500 cc), but the second 5 refers to the amount of valves per cylinder.

Other methods: Some model names refer to their anniversaries. For example, the F40 (1987) and F50 (1995) refer to the 40th and 50th anniversary, respectively.

13. What is the Most Beautiful Ferrari?

According to Ferrari Historian and expert Marcel Massini, the Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia Spider is the most beautiful Ferrari ever made, because of “super brutal and aggressive design, one-off and sensational detail.”

However, the Ferrari 375 was built only in the amount of one unit, and it’s not a car that we can see today on the roads.

The two other cars that Marcel Massini particularly liked are 250 GTO Series Two, and 250 LM Berlinetta.

Of course, the appearance of a car is subjective and everyone has their own tastes. However, when browsing rankings of the most beautiful Ferraris, the ones that are featured the most often are:

  • Ferrari Monza SP1
  • Ferrari F40
  • Ferrari F50
  • Ferrari 458 Italia
  • Ferrari Enzo
  • Ferrari 488 Pista
